Residents snip and colour for Cansa
HONEYDEW — Residents cut, colour and go bald for the Cansa shavathon.
Community members in Honeydew opened their hearts and took part in the first Cansa shavathon initiated by LDR Salon.
Residents, both young and old from different backgrounds, started trickling in from as early at 8am on 28 February, spray-painting their hair or chopping it off in the name of charity.
“We had a great turn out and it was an amazing and fun day. We had so many people willing to donate their hair and money to this amazing cause,” said LDR owner Lakin Dos Reis.
Dos Reis said almost everyone she knows or has interacted with has been affected by cancer, and this was her way of giving back.
Hearing people share their stories regarding cancer or speaking to cancer survivors was a life-changing experience for the young business owner and her hairstylists.
“We had a mother and daughter come through to donate 28cm of their hair to cancer. That was a moment of goose bumps and sheer bravery.”
The event was a great success for the women at LDR, considering it was their first time hosting a shavathon and they certainly look forward to hosting it again in future.
“We didn’t know what to expect but it was amazing that so many people came out to show their support, and we are so grateful that Cansa shavathon allowed us to be a part of this amazing cause,” Dos Reis concluded.
