GALLERY: Singers unite for Balkind
WELTEVREDEN PARK – Moving tribute show held for show organiser Louis Balkind.
Louis Balkind was involved with arranging shows at Hillfox since the early ’90s and 14 artists decided to hold a tribute concert for him.
He passed away on 9 December last year and left a big gap in the Afrikaans music world.
Marketing agent Lydia Winchester expressed her sadness when she said, “For the last 20 years Louis has been involved with Hillfox. I still remember when he organised the first big show with singer André Schwartz – we had to use an open barn-like building for the show, this was way back before Hillfox was what it is now.”
Country singers Lance James, Clive Bruce, Tommy Dell, Barbara Ray, Jody Wayne and Manie Jackson performed at the tribute show.
The popular Rodeo Girls dance group performed with Lance James and some of the other artists.
Weltevreden Park resident Min Shaw reminded the crowd of the golden days when she performed some of her hits.
The crowd was wowed again when a circus tribute also paid their respects to the organiser.
Winchester ended, “Balkind was a perfectionist and very professional when it came to his work. He knew how the industry worked and could tell you if a show could work out or not. He was one of a kind and he will be missed.”
