Grade 8 induction – one funky experience
RUIMSIG — The Grade 8 class put on quite a show as they officially become part of the Maragon family.
The Grade 8 class of 2015 at Maragon high school gave one spectacular performance during their induction into ‘big school’ on 25 February.
Parents, teachers and eager high school pupils filled the grand hall to capacity before the lights dimmed and a fun slide show was displayed about the new high scholars and their first weeks at school.
The pictures are without a doubt memories edged in the minds of the new Grade 8s who, as one pupil said, “We hope to be the Grade 8 group that no one will forget.”
We were soon treated to a spectacular evening of dancing with immaculate choreography, while there were a few steps missed here and there, but one thing was clear – the new class had cemented their place in the hearts of the teachers and some parents.
“This is a tradition for our school to induct the Grade 8 class at school and they officially wear their school blazers. The pupils are now fully fledged Maragon eagles. The performances tonight have been really good. They put in a lot of hard work and we are very proud of them,” said the school’s principal, Deon Visser.
Boasting dance routines to golden classics from Grease, Beach Boys and the king of Pop himself – the performers had the audience clapping and singing along but it would be Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk that inevitably got the audience on their feet.
During the brief recess, some Grade 10 pupils gushed, “It was amazing, definitely better than ours. We loved that they also used modern songs. Thriller, the Great Gatsby and Footlose really stand out.”
