Sarda’s family fun day

RUIMSIG — Families trickled in for Sarda's fun day despite the weather not playing along.

The South African riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda) hosted the first family fun day on 21 February in Ruimsig.

The weather certainly did not play along on the day and just a handful of families came out.

Picnic blankets and baskets were laid out by the families, who were not deterred because of the clouds. The little ones got a chance to pat and brush the horses and ponies.

The day was hosted to raise funds for the organisation that works with disabled children and adults and it was a great way for the community to interact with the animals.

Sarda provides riding for disabled people and receives no government or regular funding.

“We have more than 100 children that ride with use weekly and for each child that rides, we have three on the waiting list. We really need help from the community in keeping our doors open for the disabled,” said branch secretary Nicole Christie.
