Buddy decides to pay it forward
WILGEHEUWEL – The sole purpose of The Buddy Project is to pay it forward and assist other animals that need life-saving operations.
Buddy the Spaniel started out his life as a normal dog but soon he realised that his owner wasn’t treating him like he should be treated.
This became apparent as his previous owner dropped Buddy off at the vet and he didn’t want to pay any vet fees. The veterinarian discovered with shock that Buddy had suffered a severe blow to the head and that ultimately resulted in him losing his left eye.
Lauren Coetzee, who is part of an organisation called The Buddy Project, explained that Spaniel Rescue South Africa was the real heroes behind Buddy’s rescue in October 2014.
“The vet had to remove his left eye after it was badly damaged due to severe abuse he had suffered after full blown trauma to his head. They also found sand in his colon because he had to eat sand to survive.”
She added that after extensive medical assistance, Buddy was soon ready for a foster home.
“When he arrived, we did not have any toys for him and he was so scared and when we gave him his first toy he totally changed – a simple ball and teddy turned him into a loving animal. He still guards his toys like they are gold.”
Coetzee explained that this made them decide to start The Buddy Project by collecting toys and money in order to help out other animals that need emergency assistance.
“Cash donations go straight to a vet account that was set up at the Boskruin Veterinary Clinic. There is an excellent team of three surgeons that save many lives, including Buddy’s.”
Banking details to donate to this worthy cause is: Boskruin Vet Clinic, ABSA account number 4080539936. “Please use the Reference ‘Spaniel Rescue 8783’ when donating.”
Coetzee explained that people who wish to donate and drop off toys can contact her for more details about the drop-off point.
“In between raising awareness and paying it forward, he (Buddy) is also getting used to the idea of being treated as a worthy animal and he takes on every day as a new challenge. We urge people to ‘Like’ The Buddy Project Facebook by clicking on the following link here.
