Alleged drunk driver out on bail
ROODEPOORT - Alleged drunk driver who killed two elderly women last Friday in a car accident out on R 4 000 bail.
The alleged drunk driver who killed two elderly women in a car accident last Friday appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon.
The 35-year-old was released on R4 000 bail after being in custody since Friday morning after the accident. The State Prosecutor initially asked that the accused be released on R10 000 bail but his defence argued that he should be released on R2 000 bail, citing it a ‘fair amount’. The defence also mentioned that the accused was a self-employed tax consultant. He had no dependents but was said to be taking care of his unemployed brother. The accused is said to be living at the same address, Groblerspark, Roodepoort since 2007. The case has been remanded till 12 March, pending further investigations.
