Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens: rape rumours all false
POORTVIEW – The rumours around an alleged rape and robbery incident at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens are all mumbo jumbo, says spokesperson Ronny Tshabalala.
Peace was disturbed inside the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens as rumours started spreading about an alleged rape and a robbery that took place inside the gardens.
Marketing officer at the gardens Ronny Tshabalala said, “A rumour has been circulated that the incident happened inside the gardens during the last week of January.”
He explained that the rumours are false ,“Emails and a text message started doing the rounds about the rape but no incidents happened inside the gardens.”
He added, “It is a safe and secure environment and it has been that way for the last 15 years as no rape or attack incident ever took place inside the gardens. A reputable security company has guards on site 24 hours a day and this includes an armed response in case of an emergency or robbery.”
Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said, “No cases have been reported to the Honeydew Police.”
“The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens is a safe family-friendly environment and we don’t want any of our visitors to be scared to come and visit the gardens because we are extremely safety conscious,” concluded Tshabalala.
