Stay safe during the payday weekend
ROODEPOORT – Don't let an accident ruin the fun during this payday weekend.
The only thing better than the weekend is payday weekend.
Getting paid on a Friday is the best way to kick start the glorious weekend with all the moola to back it up.
Unfortunately, the excitement during this time, can often be deadly with numerous road fatalities reported the following Monday.
Spokesperson for Muldersdrift Police, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya warns, “Do not carry large amounts of cash as this draws attention to criminals. Keep your pin number safe and secret whenever you make a withdrawal at the ATM and do not abuse liquor.”
Fatalities during payday weekends can increase with up to 23.6 per cent compared to other weekends.
WO Ngwenya encourages residents and road users to keep the following in mind during the weekend’s festivities:
- Do not drink and drive. Driving or walking on the roads while intoxicated is a quick way to an early grave.
- If you are travelling in a vehicle, always wear your seat-belt, in the front and back seats.
- Never exceed the speed limit.
- Exercise caution while driving at night and Saturday and Sunday mornings.
