Local karate instructor trains in Japan
WELTEVREDEN PARK – Sensei Mario Sequeira visits Okinawa, the home of karate.
Local karate instructor, Sensei Mario Sequeira from the Palm Court Karate Centre in Weltevreden Park, once again visited Okinawa, Japan, to train at the home of karate. This was been Sequeira’s fifth visit to Japan to train and grade with some of the top Goju Ryu Karate instructors in the world.
“Okinawa is a small island south of Japan and is widely recognised as the birthplace of Karate-do,” stated Sequeira. “The island is still home to several world-renowned karate organisations and masters, and is visited by several dedicated karate instructors from around the world on a daily basis.”
Sequeira visited a dojo in Naha City called the Jundokan, where he was taught by a team of esteemed teachers including world-famous 10th Dan Sensei Tetsunosuke Yasuda, who will be celebrating his 90th birthday soon.
Sequeira is also the head instructor of the Palm Court Karate Centre established in 1993 and is based in Weltevreden Park. The dojo caters for students from the age of four years old and teaches traditional-based Okinawan karate.
