One house, one day, two robberies

LITTLE FALLS – Household robbed twice in one day with a toy gun.

On Friday 28 November one home in Little Falls was robbed twice. According to Fred Adams of YeSizwe Security, while monitoring the area on the recently installed cameras, he noticed fire at one of the resident’s homes. “I went out to this house to see what was happening and I couldn’t access this house from the side I was standing at initially.”

Adams explained that he drove around into Ribbon Avenue so that he could access the house where there was a fire. As he was approaching the fire house, another resident shouted to get Adams’s help. The resident told Adams that the robbers were back again. It is understood that the same resident was held up by robbers on the same Friday morning at about 6am. Between 1pm and 2pm the robbers were back again. “The resident told me that there were four men in the house, as I tried to search the house, I saw three of them running away.” Adams managed to apprehend one of the suspects who were allegedly involved in the robbery. The suspect had a gun in his possession but Adams said this was actually a toy. “After apprehending him, I found a gun and upon holding it I noticed that it was a toy.” Adams said the gun looked real and if one didn’t know guns too well they would mistaken it for a real gun.

Adams applauded Honeydew Police Sector 3 manager Captain André Lamprecht and his team for the prompt response to the calls they logged when the robberies took place. “They were here within minutes. We are grateful for the wonderful service they give. There are never any delays.”

Resident Hennie Schreuder – whose house was actually on fire – said this proves the success of the cameras installed by Little Falls Struben’s Valley Community Forum (Lifco). “These cameras are definitely a great crime fighting tool and also assist in other avenues. Because of the cameras the damage was minimum at my house and a robbery taking place foiled.”

Schreuder said, if more community members could get involved in the forum, crime would easily be eradicated in the two suburbs. “It’s only R50 a month to be a member and the money is used toward the maintenance and operation of these cameras.”

Spokesperson for Honeydew Police Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs is still to comment on the matter.
