Local dancers to heat up dance floor
MULDERSDRIFT — The national and international hip-hop dance champs are getting ready to set the stage on fire at the year end championships
Hip-hop dancers from our areas, including Ruimsig and Featherbrooke are gearing up for the battle of the year on 22 November.
Dancers young and old from Mario Gomes Hip-Hop Dance Academy will take part in the annual competition at Mount Usambara to claim the ultimate title of Top Dancer in the respective age categories. More than 200 dancers from different age groups and categories will take part in the showcase.
The academy’s owner and choreographer Mario Gomes said the year-end championships will crown the top dancer of the year and will give away great prizes to the winners. “For the first time, we will have a kids battle – for dancers between 6–11 years old – and they will get the same opportunities to show off what they learned throughout the whole year. We have the Champ of Champs battle where the winner could walk away with a cash prize or a flat screen TV. It is going to be insane,” added Gomes.
The Honours Dance Championships encourage students to use routines they learned from the beginning of the year in the hip-hop and contemporary dance sections. With judges from South Africa’s entertainment industry, the show promises to be nothing short of thrilling.
At R50 a ticket, spectators can enjoy a full day of mind-blowing moves and performances and showcase the talent in our backyard.
