Carols by candlelight in the garden
POORTVIEW - Join into the festive celebrations at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.
The Old Mutual Carols by Candlelight concerts have become a feature of the festive season and are synonymous with giving to the less fortunate. This year is no different. On Friday 28 November the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens will reverberate with the sounds of Christmas carols by music band Swing City.
The band will treat Johannesburg to brassy swing jazz from the ’50s era of crooners, class and sophistication at this year’s Carols by Candlelight evening.
Loyiso Bala, Nathan Roe and Graham Watkins, who make up the band Swing City, will serenade music lovers and ensure that the 2014 Old Mutual Music in the Gardens series ends on a high note.
Formed this year, Swing City has teamed up with musical director and six-time Naledi Theatre Award nominee, Bryan Schimmel, to take the band to great heights of entertainment and technical mastery.
The band’s combined theatre, television and musical experience ensures that their performance will be something spectacular.
“Our carol nights are a highlight of our Music in the Gardens series, and they always make for a special and memorable night out. As part of Old Mutual’s More than Yourself campaign, and in the spirit of the season, we are encouraging concert-goers to open their hearts to Gauteng’s young disadvantaged children in need and support the South African Child Welfare Association’s Christmas Gift Box charity drive,” said Old Mutual sponsorships manager, Bandila Mngoma.
