Five-year-old shows her true colours on stage
RUIMSIG — A five year-old performer is coming out her shell with her on-stage poetry.
Five-year-old performing artist Vania Coelho has transformed into a confident little performer after taking a couple of lessons from her older brother, who is no stranger to the National Eisteddfod stage.
Vania’s parents decided to enter her in the National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA) this year after she showed a strong interest in her big brother’s poetic and stage recitals. An interest in her talent eventually resulted in the Maragon Pre-school pupil performing her own poem in front of an audience at the NEA competitions.
“She has done so well for someone that has just began doing the Eisteddfod,” Vania’s mother, Claudia Coelho boasted. “We are incredibly proud of her achievements and all that she has yet to acquire in her performances.”
On 23 October the five-year-old was invited to perform at the Roodepoort Theatre where she impressed the whole audience with her lyric poem. The budding performer was chosen as the category winner for the foundation phase and was awarded the Ambassador Trophy, which is for any item that scores in the top three rankings.
According to her mother, Vania, who begins Grade 1 next year, is looking forward to adding more items in her performer’s basket in the future.
