Bidders auction for breast cancer
LITTLE FALLS - Residents come together to support breast cancer awareness month celebrations and fundraising event.
Curves Struben’s Valley together with Claudia Nail and Beauty Studio recently hosted a Bidders against Breast Cancer auction.
The event was held at the beauty studio in Little Falls.
Most of those who attended said they either had a family member or friend who once had breast cancer or currently has it. “This is a subject that is very close to my heart; my family has a family history of the disease. I have even lost an aunt, so I’m here in her memory,” explained one of the attendees, Tessa van der Walt.
According to Gwen Seger of Curves, this is an annual event that they hold to raise funds in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness. She said it was also a big event on their calendar. “This year marks the third year of a collaboration between Curves and PinkDrive.”
She explained that they raise funds that will help maintain the PinkDrive mammography and PinkDrive educational unit to keep on driving through the country and getting the message across that early detection saves lives.
The PinkDrive educational unit focuses on educating the community about breast health and breast cancer so that women realise the utmost importance of breast self-examination.
“The entire team giving this tremendous community support are all breast cancer survivors who share their journey of hope and support with women going through the same trauma that they have had to face,” said Seger.
She also thanked all the sponsors for their generosity and assisting them without any hesitation in every way possible to make the day a great success.
