It is certainly a site you don’t see every day; journalists from all spheres of media dressed in their Sunday best and being appreciated for their efforts in the newsroom or out on field.The Hyatt Regency hotel in Rosebank was transformed to hold more than a handful of journalists for the annual Vodacom Journalist of the year awards on 31 October.I was not nominated (yet..) but I was invited to the glitzy event and I hate to admit it but I was like a kid in a candy store when I walked through the glass doors and was immediately greeted by faces that had years of experience in an industry I am strongly passionate aboutHosted by Morning Live news anchor, Ayanda Allie-Paine – journos from print, radio, online and television gathered in the conference room to find out who were the big dogs that made headlines for all the right reasons in the past year.Chief Officer for Corporate Affairs at Vodacom, Maya Makanjee enthused that the number of entries had drastically increased in 2014 to 967 journalists.She added “Vodacom, along with journalism itself, has seen so many changes in how news is covered over the past 20 years. The past year has been one of very impactful media stories, and I am aware that the judges had a difficult time selecting the winners.”
