Scrap metal thieves are very active in the area, according to Panorama Resident’s Association chairperson Jon Rosenberg.
Rosenberg pointed out that these opportunistic thieves are stealing the metal strips that cover the drains that run across Rooisering Street.
“After they[had] removed the steel strip a huge hole was left in the middle of the road –this could seriously damage your vehicle or even kill a motorcyclist.”
He added that a resident in the area filled the hole up with grass and other garden refuse to make it easier to drive over.
“Luckily, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) erected two yellow plastic partitions to make the hole visible to motorists and to make it harder to drive through it.”
“We will have to wait and see how long the entity takes to replace the metal strip in the middle of the road,” concluded Rosenberg.
