Dolfhout Street shows signs of collapse

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Roads entity acknowledge that they received complaints and issues regarding the bridge on Dolfhout Street.

The Dolfhout Street bridge that crosses a small stream is a big concern for Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin.

He said, “The bridge is used daily by hundreds of motorists as a route to and from their homes in the area. A couple of large cracks started to appear in the road about six months ago and the problem now is that the bridge shows signs of an early collapse [due to soil erosion].”

Tonkin added that the rain season will cause water levels to rise and this will speed up the erosion process. He said he logged a complaint at the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) “but nothing gets done to rectify the problem and it can easily turn into a serious problem when the big rains arrive.”
