Poem written by Dave ‘Forever’ Young from Weltevreden Park:
Sentencing
Please remember don’t forget,
That Oscar Pistorious has a serious defect
Even though he has no legs, he could compete
Just like an able bodied athlete.
He became an icon in his own right:
To many fans he was a shining light.
Now he’s convicted of culpable homicide,
For shooting Reeva Steenkemp, who died!
Without a doubt, for her death, he is to blame;
She was a beautiful model; it’s such a shame!
The last Olympics made an Icon of Oscar Pistorius
That turned his life into something glorious!
Like other celebrities and stars
He owned houses, mansions, and cars.
It’s all gone now in the twinkling of an eye,
Why oh why did Reeva have to die
Sportsmen have a limited time to compete
Eventually they get runoff their feet!
They should always have an alternate position,
In case of injury; something else to fall back upon,
For his well-being and sustenance,
In this case a custodial sentence!
It’s taken Judge Masipa 20 months to balance the scale
And eventually, to put Oscar Pistorius into jail
When are any sentences too little or not enough?
When is a sentence too soft or too tough?
The defence claims he should get house arrest;
The prosecution states that sentence is not the best;
For Oscar, the Icon image has burst,
Instead of being the best, he turns out the worst!
Gone is the icon image and all the contracts
Gone are the competitions and the running tracks
No more waving fire-arms in dangerous situations
No more night clubs and silly confrontations
We sympathize with Oscar, and that he is leg-less,
But he’s made his life into one big mess.
Guns, A-K’s, rifles and all arms used by hand,
Should be totally scrapped and banned!
We shall never forget Reeva and her bright smile,
We would have loved seeing her walk up the aisle
Stressful situations should be solved by tact,
Not by rows, physical or verbal, or things like that!
