Having two left feet is not a problem for 18-year-old Megan Perrins who was recently awarded with six gold medals at the American Dance Awards from 6 to 12 October.

The Maragon pupil started dancing when she was just seven years old and has been showing off her versatility in dance – from modern dance, tap and a dabble in acrobatics ever since.
In September, Perrins won three awards at the Roodepoort Dance Festival Championships for best modern solo performance, highest score in the modern and tap and modern all-rounder championship.
Teachers and parents have been highly impressed by her feat. Her father Gordon Perrin said, Megan has been consistently outstanding and her awards are proof of that.
“I am very proud of her achievements. Whenever Megan dances I have to stand up and hence I am normally at the back of the hall,” begins Gordon.
“As parents we have supported her every step of the way, but the decision to dance was her decision. To me, she has always been my champion and she gives her best in whatever it is she puts her mind to. I always advised her that if she commits to anything, then she has to give 110 per cent. It’s one thing having a talent, but hard work always beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” he beamed.
The Grade 12 pupil is not shy of tapping into other forms of dance and movement. She competed in the Acrobatic Federation of South Africa Championships (AFSAC) too, where she received four awards for her open duet, improvisation, best personality and for the second time in a row – overall senior champion.
Perrins did her school and country proud by also excelling at the American Dance Awards, including one considered “a complete spectacle”. She was awarded six gold medals, two ultimate gold medals and two awards for her personality.
When she is not dancing her heart out on stage, Perrins can be found on the athletics pitch, swimming pool or on the netball court pursuing her other passions.
