Local riders step it up at International competition.
ROODEPOORT— The polo international horse trials set the stage for local horse riders.
Horserider Colin Hallaby is still relishing the high from the Polo International Horse Trials that took place on 3 to 5 October in Kyalami, Midrand.
The local rider, who is no stranger to competitions, took part in the three-day glitzy event with his 11-year-old warmblood Wows Incestous. The two regularly compete in high level events, including CIC2* in Oaksprings in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
In 2013, Hallaby was ranked third in the Eventing Zone Rankings for South Africa. A regular on SA’s horseriding scene, he has taken part in more than a dozen races in Midrand, Northern Farm and Springs.
The Polo International Horse Trials had riders from all over the world to expose the glamorous and often exclusive world of horseriding.
“The 2014 Polo International Horse Trials was by far the most spectacular event I’ve attended in SA, it felt like I was at one of the most high-profile events in the world. It was an outstanding show,” Collin Hallaby.
Event organiser Pat Parker says, the event aims to develop South African athletes and expose them to the international stage. “We have a great number of athletes that will be competing in the United Kingdom and the 2016 Olympics”
