Tennis club championships

The Weltevreden Park Tennis Club hosted their Annual 2014 Tennis Club Championships Finals on 4 October for men’s doubles, mixed doubles and ladies’ doubles.

“The atmosphere at the club champs finals was electrifying – the tennis displayed at all levels was unbelievable…As our Honourable Minister of Sport would have said, ‘it was a razmataz atmosphere’,” said club chairman Yusuf Coovadia.

“Without the community’s involvement and the key sponsors, these club championships of 2014 could not have been such a huge success for the club and community.”

Families and children came out in numbers to support their favourite players.

The club champions also had an abundance of entertainment at hand on the day such as a DJ, jumping castles for kids and a spit braai.

“Well done to all the winners and losers and the supporters as without the support the day would not have been such a huge success,” said Coovadia.

He also highlighted that they look forward to hosting the Singles Club Championships in April 2015.

Results

Ernest Roodt and Gardner Rusike beat Stephan Duponsel and Jean Pierre Duponsel 6–2; 6–2 in the men’s mains finals.

Yusuf Coovadia and Keith Larsen beat Justin Roberts and Kashi Dolman 6–2; 3–6 ;7–5 in the men’s plate winners.

Dianne Duncan and Sam Duncan beat Briony Fowle and Elene Bothma 6–1; 6–2 in the ladies’ doubles winners.

Tim Cross and Briony Fowle beat Elene Bothma and Mike Haigh 2–6; 6–1; 6–4 in the mixed doubles winners.
