Post office strike drags on

ROODEPOORT— Community members are frustrated with the lack of efficient service as the postal strike continues.

The ongoing Post Office is becoming a headache for residents as they continuously struggle to send and receive important mail.

Now in its sixth week, the strike comes as a result of action taken by a number of casual postal workers who are demanding permanent contracts, which would include medical aid and pension fund.

Post Office spokesperson Lungile Lose says the company is still in negotiations with the workers and hope to have a solution as soon as possible.

“We are engaged in negotiations to bring a speedy end to the situation. There have been cases of intimidation but the focus is finding an agreement and the rate at which we resolve this.”

One Honeydew resident Louise Howis says he gets the same excuse every time, although it is clear the problem is far from being salvaged.

“Can you imagine the backlog of mail? Which will take many months to sort out… So I have told friends that, sorry, their birthday cards will now arrive in time for Christmas,” said Howis.
