Ward 126 committee discuss problems in the area
WELTEVREDENPARK - Visible policing could curb high levels of crime in the area.
Ward 126 held a committee meeting on 20 August at the Civic Centre in Roodepoort.
Ward councillor Mike Tonkin explained that the meeting was held with the sole purpose of discussing issues and problems in the Ward and 10 committee members attended the meeting.
“The first topic we discussed was one that affects all of the residents in our Ward and that is the condition of the roads in our area. The members explained that the road signs need to be replaced after accidents as the Roads Agency are just leaving them in the same state for months.”
The second problem involved the high levels of crime in the area. “We came to the conclusion that criminals break in less when they see that the area has a police presence in it. The only way to achieve this is for the Metro Police and the local police officers to enforce more visible police operations where a police vehicle drives around in our sector to stop crime from happening on a frequent basis.”
The upcoming CPF Fun Run that will take place in Weltevreden Park in the area covered by the Riverwel Resident’s Association. “We realised that we are still short on volunteers for the fun run and we urge residents to assist us and volunteer.”
He added that the fun run will take place on 30 August.
