It is never too early to start with charitable projects that build up your community and this is more evident with 13-year-old Amy-Leigh Wilkinson.
The Grade 7 pupil from Weltevreden Park Primary school is the perfect example that charity begins at home with her initiatives for the community council projects.
Amy-Leigh, with the assistance of her educators, recently acquired a bakkie load of tinned food for local old age homes.
The teenager shows great leadership skills in her community with her various projects and at school, where she is a prefect.
“I enjoy working with old people because they are often forgotten in our communities, I am just glad I am able to help them and that more people are getting involved.”
On 5 September, Amy-Leigh and the head of the community council will hand over goods and food to the Presbyterian Church in Parkview and packages for the old-age homes.
Head of the community council Kirsten Pretorius says, “pupils at Weltevreden Park Primary School are synonymous with charity work and helping the less fortunate. The support we get from the parents is truly amazing and enables us to help charities on a weekly basis. We are very proud of Amy-Leigh for initiating this project.”
