All things jazzy at Ruimsig Stadium
RUIMSIG - Jazz not all that boring as it is used to brings families and residents together.
The cold windy weather on 23 August did not stop music lovers from attending the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Concert that was held at Ruimsig Stadium.
Hundreds of residents from different regions of the City of Johannesburg made their way to attend the event.
Addressing the crowd, executive producer of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Peter Tladi said this was part of the build-up to the annual Jazz Festival coming up in September.
The free concert was brought by Standard Bank Joy of Jazz and the City of Johannesburg.
“This concert is also about encouraging family life. It’s an event that accommodates all family members,” said Tladi.
In addition, he also mentioned that the concert was aimed at breaking the stigma around jazz music.
“I’m delighted to see young people here enjoying the music. Jazz is not a boring music or a genre only enjoyed by old (adults) people.”
Part of the line-up that performed, were some young artists.
The Sould Beat Band entertained the crowd with their unique sound.
“We are really honoured to be part of the line-up for an event of this magnitude,” said one of the band members Kyle McDonald.
Another act that wowed the crowd with her soulful voice, was Nia Pearl who rendered a performance with her band. “It’s really encouraging to see young women do things for themselves,” said Dudu Magana who says she drove all the way from Orange Farm to attend the concert.
