Woman in coma after a hit-and-run

RUIMSIG - A hit-and-run victim still unconscious in hospital after she was allegedly hit by a vehicle and left on the road.

RUIMSIG – A resident poses the question “what is wrong with members of the society” after a woman was found lying helpless in the road after a hit-and-run incident.

Godfrey Tlale was on his way to work when local security guards approached him for assistance, after one of them discovered a woman lying on the side of Van Bergen Road in Ruimsig.

According to Tlale, the security guard was “on his way to relieve his colleague who was busy with his shift at a nearby residential complex,” when he noticed the injured woman.

This incident happened around 6am on 9 July, while the woman was supposedly about to cross Hendrik Potgieter Road from Van Bergen Road when she was hit.

In an attempt to contact the woman’s next-of-kin, Tlale said the security guard searched their immediate surroundings for her cellphone.

“After one of the guys called the ambulance, we looked for his phone to call the next of kin but the cellphone was nowhere to be found. Apparently some guys passed there earlier and took the phone and left her lying there. We only found headphones and an empty phone pouch,” Tlale informed.

“Luckily one of the guards noticed that the woman looked familiar and lived in the Bushmill Complex further down in the street. These guards managed to located the woman’s roommate who was able to assist.”

According to the woman’s roommate, who preferred to protect the identity of the victim, the woman is currently in ICU and stable. “She is currently unresponsive and hasn’t woken up from her coma yet, but we are hoping for the best,” she informed.

At the time of going to print, a case has not yet been opened as the roommates were still awaiting feedback and a letter from the doctor to accompany the docket.
