Yet another series of power outages
JOBURG - Residents in the Roodepoort precinct have been experiencing unplanned power outages and should now expect planned outages on 26 and 27 June.
Residents of the greater Joburg should prepare themselves for some planned power outages this winter said City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo.
Closer to home, residents in Roodepoort have recently been affected by unscheduled power outages from the start of June.
According to a statement released by City Power, the recent power outages have been the result of technical faults that in turn caused the power to go out unexpectedly.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said some power outages have been reported in his area. “All of these issues have been linked to cable theft incidents that have been reported to City Power,” he said.
Ward 85 councillor Carl Mann informed that residents in Kloofendal and Constantia Kloof have also been affected by power outages that occur on and off during the week.
Honeydew business owner Rob Marussi expressed his outrage and said businesses in the area have also been affected by the unscheduled power outages in Joburg.
“It’s problematic if houses are without power, but it’s costing me business and I’m losing money when we are without power because I can’t operate my business without electricity.”
Masolo reassured residents that the networks that experienced technical faults have been repaired since and there should be no more unplanned outages.
Ward 89 councillor Ingrid Reinten said, “Residents in Wards 89, 97 and 126 are going to affected by a planned power outage on 26 June from 11.50pm to 6am the next morning. Affected areas are Allen’s Nek, Constantia Kloof, Harveston, Honey Park, Honeydew Grove, Honeydew Manor, Laser Park, Little Falls, Panorama, Radiokop, Randparkrif and Struben’s Valley. Residents in Weltevreden Park and Wilgeheuwel will also be affected by the outage.”
