Honeydew runs dry due to burst water pipe

HONEYDEW- A burst water pipe in Juice Street has left parts of Honeydew without water this morning.

Clean water has been running down Juice Street in Honeydew from about 6.30am this morning. Resident Julian Kruger said she is concerned with the amount of water lost during that time. “1000’s of litres of clean water has been lost, Water has been pouring from the early housr of this morning and no one has attended to it. To make matters worse there is also a power failure in the area. I am tired of having to report the dismal service that is rendered to rate payers,” said the angry Kruger. Northsider reported to the scene at around 11.40am where employees of Johannesburg Water had just arrived to fix the pipe. They couldn’t confirm how long it will take to restore water, nor could they confirm the cause of the burst. Water supply to some parts of Honeydew was interrupted and it is not clear whether this was because of the burst water pipe. The concerned pipe is on the corner of Juice Street and Printech Avenue. Although it is not clear what caused the burst, there is speculation that theft of the air valve might be the main cause, since there has been a growing trend of air valves being stolen. On 4 May, vehicles using Jim Fouche Road in Weltevreden Park were subject to traffic as a burst water pipe spewed 5 metres of clean water into the air on the Beyers Naudé Drive intersection. Joburg Water spokesperson Millicent Kabwe later confirmed that the Jim Fouche burst was due to a stolen air valve. Johannesburg Water is still to comment on the Juice Street burst.
