Pipe upgrade going as planned
FAIRLAND- An infrastructure upgrade to pipelines in Northcliff and Fairland will be complete by December, the contractor confirms.

Work on replacing water pipes in the suburbs of Northcliff and Fairland will be completed in December.
Motla projects has been appointed by Johannesburg Water to replace existing 110cm and 160cm diameter water pipelines.
The water pipes in the area need to be sugar coated and beautified, Motla projects manager Gladwin Rangwanasha explained.
“The old water pipes are worn out and burst repeatedly due to high water pressure in the area.”
The pipes are being replaced with heavy duty pipes.
Motla projects will open trenches per street at a time and follow all Johannesburg Water standards.
Trenches will be left open for a few days to weeks.
“This is provision for tie-in or commissioning of the new pipe line. Residents are always notified of this activity in time so that when water is shut-down by Johannesburg Water depot they are aware and prepared for a few hours inconvenience,” Rangwanasha said.
Rangwanasha warned that, after testing the pressure it can withstand; the new system would be flushed to rid it of debris. Residents should expect to see water flooding in the affected section of the street. This procedure is approved by Johannesburg Water.
“In a few days after we have closed our trenches, we return to the spot where we have started to connect the new water pipeline,” he said.
Residents are warned seven days prior water is shut-down.
Immediately after the pipes are commissioned, the trenches will be closed and compacted and flowers, paving and grass reinstated to its original state.
“We are well aware of the inconvenience and plead with the residence to bear with us. We are professionals and Johannesburg Water monitors us constantly from both technical and safety aspects of the works. We conform to the standards and regulations of the works,” Rangwanasha said.
“We promote the residence to come straight to site for any queries. Our technical team is always ready to explain or clarify any issues as they occur.”
