While Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) was trying to deal with the huge backlog of fixing potholes caused by the rains experienced over the past months, some staff members at the two filling stations in the area took it upon themselves to fix those in the vicinity.

A few employees from Engen Little Falls and BP Strubens Valley temporarily fixed the potholes which were in Cascades and Fredenharry roads in Little Falls and Strubens Valley respectively.

Emmanuel Nene who is the manager at BP Strubens Valley was part of a four men team who fixed the potholes in Cascades Road. He said they did this because they saw the danger posed by the potholes to motorists. “Accidents could have easily occurred if we [had] left the potholes just like that because motorist swerved to avoid them and it was not safe as they sometimes had to drive on the wrong side of the road,” explained Nene.

He and his team spent three days filling the open potholes. A committee member of the Little Falls and Strubens Valley Community Forum (Lifco) expressed her gratitude to the staff of the two service stations. “This goes to show that support goes two ways. It’s wonderful to see businesses doing their part in upholding the esteemed beauty of suburbs they operating in.” She added that fixing the potholes made the roads to look pretty and well groomed.
