Local heart throb takes on Mr South Africa 2014
RUIMSIG - Northside’s very own Armand Du Plessis is in the running.
Ruimsig has a secret it can no longer keep and its residents are bursting with pride.
The suburb’s biggest heart throb, 25 year-old Armand Du Plessis, is in the running for the title of Mr South Africa 2014.
And if Ruimsig’s reputation is anything to go by, this local lad will go very far.
Born and raised on the West Rand, Du Plessis and his family have been residing in the same home in Ruimsig for the last 22 years. “I used to go to Laerskool
Muldersdrift and later went on to matriculate from Hoërskool Monument. Tennis became a passion for me there, but I always excelled more at leadership and the arts at school.”
After winning the Mr Krugersdorp title in 2008, and Mr Roodepoort in 2009, he decided to focus all his energies on his studies.
“I’m currently in my final year of my Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree at the University of Pretoria,” says Du Plessis, “but I plan on moving back to the West Rand next year where I’ll join my family’s law practice.”
And to top it all off, this blue-eyed wonder has now entered the Mr South Africa pageant?
He chuckles and smiles charmingly. “It has always been a dream for me. It is a big competition for which you have to be 100 percent prepared. I decided in
January that 2014 is going to be the year I enter and make a success of it.”
The 25 semi-finalists will be announced at the end of May, while the 12 finalist will be chosen in July. These finalists will then compete at the grand finale of Mr South Africa 2014 which will be held in December.
“I’m very positive about this coming year, and I am so grateful for the support I’ve received from my community so far. Becoming Mr South Africa will allow me to give back, not only to them through the charities I work with, but also to the rest of our beautiful country.”
