Kruger’s book hit the book shelves
ROODEPOORT - From journalist to well known public speaker
Author, motivational speaker and five times SA Public Speaking champion are just some of the accolades that Weltevreden Park resident, Douglas Kruger, has behind his name.
However, the biggest news, is that his new book Own Your Industry will hit book stores on 6 April – and it is published by Penguin Books.
The book deals with 50 ways to position yourself as an expert and looks at practical, proactive steps you can take to gain visibility and become known as a thought-leader in your industry.
Kruger started off as a journalist at the Northcliff Melville Times in 2004 and thereafter public speaking took over his life.
“I enjoyed journalism but public speaking was something I loved to do in my spare time. I joined the Toast Masters 13 years ago and have never looked back,” Kruger said.
He started building a career out of his motivational speeches.
“I started to use different topics that companies could choose between and I would come and do my speeches. One of my popular topics is: Do you blame the jeans or own the bum? This topic pokes fun at the culture of blame and victimhood and shows how by inverting it, we can set goals, strive for achievements and move away from excuses.”
When asked what he thinks entrepreneurs need to do in order to succeed, he smiled and said, “Don’t be the Pie-Man, selling his wares one by one. Be the guru and they will come to you.”
