Local Motocross riders excel in national series

NORTHSIDE - Local riders Naudé and Kok perform well at first Motocross Series of 2014

The Motocross National Series was off to a good start when riders participated in the first leg of the series that took place at the track in Port Elizabeth on 1 March.

In spite of the wind, riders began with their practise and qualifying laps.

Monster Energy spokesperson Sebastian Clay said, “It was interesting to see all the new riders and teams, and most importantly, who had done their pre-season training.

“There were a few surprises after qualifying with some unknown riders posting great times and some top riders struggling.”

He added that the track is one of the trickier circuits and that it demanded every bit of experience and stamina from the riders.

The premier MX2 class had 28 riders on the line, and Northside rider Sacha Naude performed well during all the heats to finish in the top five. He also surprised the crowd when he took the overall win in the competitive MX1 class.

Naude’s teammate Michael Kok, also a Northsider, managed to beat him during the second heat which put Kok in second overall.

Clay said, “The racing was of the highest calibre and the Port Elizabeth locals were entertained in all the classes. With four rounds still to go in the series across SA, we are in for an exciting season. The next round is in Cape Town on 19 and 20 April.”
