Former soccer stars mould future stars
RADIOKOP - Former Premier Soccer League players help with soccer development at Panorama Football Club.
Former Premier Soccer League players, Philani ‘Bash’ Khoza and Tonic Chabalala, are taking the sum of their knowledge learnt during their careers and sharing it with budding sportsmen at Panorama Football Club.
Talking to both of them at the club’s grounds in Radiokop, the duo explained they are doing this because of their love for the game. “Soccer development is essential for players and the club is the most relevant place to do it,” said Chabalala.
They both help with coaching the senior and junior soccer teams at the club on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Khoza, who retired from playing professional soccer at the end of the 2010/2011 soccer season, said the commitment the players show is remarkable, something which he commends the soccer club for. “All teams are responsible and respect each other. They know when its practice and always show up on time.”
Chabalala, who played for various teams including Orlando Pirates during his soccer career, said coaching the teams keeps them fit.
Chairperson of the football club Michael Michael, said the club is thrilled to have the duo on board. “The experience they bring to our teams is valuable because it brings improvement to the quality of players of this beautiful game,” he said. “It’s really good to have people like them who are willing to share their skills and give back to the community.”
Michael added having Khoza and Chabalala motivates upcoming soccer stars, showing them anything is possible.
