City Parks playing the blame rain
WELTEVREDEN PARK - Resident fed up with doing City Parks' job
Weltevreden Park residents are fed up with the lack of maintenance on the pavement opposite Bergkaree Avenue.
City Parks has neglected the area for several months and it is overgrown with grass.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said, “The grass is almost a metre in length and residents fear for their safety because criminals can easily hide there.” Tonkin stressed the area should be maintained monthly.
Resident Thomas Smit said, “Homeowners in the area have been maintaining the pavement on the opposite side of Bergkaree Avenue but they can only do so much. The first section of the pavement is cut on a monthly basis by residents but the section that is located closer to the park is too dense for us to cut with our lawnmowers.”
City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley attributed the growth of the flora to the rainy season and the impact this had on schedules. “A query has been logged and we have added the park to our maintenance schedule on 30 January,” said Moodley.
