City Parks dumps reeds
WELTEVREDEN PARK - A backlog of reeds will result in the stream overflowing
A stream close to Spring Road in Weltevreden Park is fast becoming a real danger.
Last year it overflowed several times, allegedly due to reeds that City Parks had cut down and left in the waterway.
“These reeds will cause a blockage of water when the next storm comes and it will damage my property and my neighbour’s property as well,” said resident Ester Greenwood. “My neighbour had to reconstruct his exterior wall after a flood occurred in October 2013. He had to install gabion baskets to safeguard his wall against future floods.”
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said, “The reeds in the stream are dangerous because they will block the small tunnel that runs through the bridge and will cause the water to overflow.”
No comment was received from City Parks at the time of going to print.
