Woman of Substance raises R60 000 for Child Welfare
ROODEPOORT - Fundraising organisation committed to doing even more in 2014
West Rand-based charity fundraising organisation Woman of Substance recently handed over a cheque amounting to R60 000 to Child Welfare Roodepoort.
The amount was raised through different fundraising events held throughout 2013. “It was a challenging year for us,” said Woman of Substance managing director Charlotte Du Plessis. “But I know our ambassadors will be working even harder in 2014 to raise funds for charities close to our hearts, especially Child Welfare SA Roodepoort.”
The organisation, which originated in Springs on the East Rand, appoints women as ambassadors who in turn raise funds for various charities. Their chosen beneficiary for 2013 was Child Welfare, an organisation that cares for more than 3000 disadvantaged children. And again in 2014, they have been chosen as the fundraising organisation’s main beneficiary.
“Words cannot express how grateful we are here at the welfare centre,” stated an elated Angelique McAdam, who took over as chairperson for the welfare centre three years ago. McAdam has been re-elected to chair the centre for the next three years. “We can’t survive purely on government grants, it’s simply not enough. It’s because of people like this [Woman of Substance ambassadors] that my faith in humanity is restored.”
