Allens Nek’s resident triathlete
Local sporting star shares his views on health and nutrition
Having been a professional triathlete for more than ten years, Allens Nek resident Glenn Macnamara is a disciplined, passionate and determined sportsman.
Macnamara works as a fitness coach for children, specialising in swimming and running. He also trains adults in fitness and preparing for sporting competitions like the Ironman triathlon and the 94.7 Cycle Challenge.
He describes himself as an early bird and usually begins his day before 5am. “I’m up early for training, which will be a combination of cycling and running.”
Last year the triathlete took part in several international events, achieving great results. To date, he has participated in over ten world championships and has seen a great deal of the world. “I have explored countries like the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and United States of America.”
Macnamara’s 2014 goal is to inspire others who wish to excell in sport. “I want to make a difference in people’s lives.”
He emphasises that good nutrition ensures good results. “I always think of what I put in my body. I eat four to seven fruits a day and less processed foods.” As well as a word-class sportsman, Macnamara is a nutritionist and believes people need to be educated about loving and looking after their bodies. “Food dictates who we are.”
