Honeydew’s Sixteen Days of Activism
Drive to create awareness against women and child abuse.
to 10 December to
show your support
for victims of
abuse.
The Honeydew Police Station will launch their 16 Days of Activism drive in support of the international campaign against women and child abuse, which begins on 25 November and ends on 10 December. The campaign was initiated in 1991 by the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute. The dates were chosen to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November and Human Rights Day, celebrated across the world on 10 December. This symbolically links the two to emphasise that such violence is a violation of human rights.
The activities the station has planned include a Soccer Against Violence match between the Honeydew police soccer team and Zandspruit youth at Ruimsig Stadium on 27 November, as well as Carols by Candlelight for abuse victims, held at Clearwater Mall on 29 November.
Together with the Department of Education, a march is taking place on 2 December from Zandspruit Primary, aimed to raise HIV awareness and the plight of abuse victims.
In addition to this, a self defense seminar is due to take place at the station on 5 December.
Attendees are encouraged to wear white clothing or to wear the white awareness ribbon, which shows support for victims of domestic violence. Details: Honeydew police (011) 801 8613/4/5
