Monash University in Ruimsig was a flurry of busy bodies on 24 October as students rushed up and down stairs, corridors and between check points for Monash’s own version of “The Amazing Race”.
Students required to complete a series of mental and physical challenges in order to win, including running laps around the soccer field, shooting the hoop on the basketball courts, and figuring out a variety of puzzles.
“Monash is basically doing this to de-stress the students during exam time,” says student councillor Dashen Reddy, “to give a bit of a fun break from all the books.”
The final challenge was a climb up the storey-high jumping castle for a dash down the water slide into the splash pool.
The Zamria (Zambia and Nigeria) team won the event for the day and second place went to the highly enthusiastic team Anhuacho (meaning “we are the people”), followed by the Dream Team.
“Team building exercises like these encourage us to work together toward a common goal,” said student Irvine Mamwsha. “No matter how hard it got, we had to keep each other going so we could finish.”
