Electricity is out

Power outages a part of daily life, says Radiokop resident

For Radiokop resident Hilary White, the past few weeks have been very stressful. She and fellow Radiokop residents have been experiencing rather usual power outages.

“Most of the time the power is cut at about midnight [Tuesday] and runs into a Wednesday morning. I wonder if this is really an electrical problem or a planned outage.”

On some days, residents can go for 18 hours without electricity and these outages are digging holes in their pockets. “The contents of my freezer have thawed, some have been thrown out, rest refrozen, thawed again, refrozen and partially thawed again,” said White.

She further questions if City Power will reimburse them for their losses as they constantly have to throw out food from their fridges and freezers.

White has had to delay renovations on her home, and in order to enjoy a warm meal and hot cup of tea, she has purchased a gas stove. Electricity is no longer reliable, she lamented.

White said nothing has been communicated to them as to why they are having these unusual power outages. Her efforts to get answers from City Power remain fruitless. She has on several occasions tried to contact them but no one answered her calls.

At the time of going to press, City Power had not responded to questions sent to them.
