To celebrate World Food Day, Joint Aid Management South Africa (JAM SA) joined forces with the KFC Add Hope campaign to deliver food parcels to the physically impaired persons living in the Swanville settlement in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg, on 15 October.
These people, despite their disabilities, are full of hope thanks to financial service provider Westbank and JAM SA. The organisations initiated the creation of a large vegetable patch, called Tswaranang Garden, in the settlement more than a year ago and settlement members have been working hard to maintain it.
And they certainly have been reaping the rewards. On 15 October they sold a large amount of their produce at a market they set up nearby the vegetable garden. Onions, carrots, cauliflower and crispy green spinach were on sale, while the budding farmers beamed excitedly as shoppers bought the produce.
KFC Add Hope campaign’s Lindy April was thrilled to take part in the day’s activities. “It’s great to be here, to see how these people help to uplift their community.” The campaign aims to ensure that impoverished children in South Africa have access to adequate nutrition through their national feeding programme.
JAM SA is based in Honeydew and is part of the international humanitarian Joint Aid Management group that strives to alleviate poverty by encouraging self-sustainability.
