How to make a brilliant burger

Trust the expert - Silverstar's Executive Chef George Georgiou

Silverstar Casino recently invited journalists to learn how to make the perfect burger with their Executive Chef, George Georgiou.

According to Georgiou, the best ingredients for a perfect burger start with a toasted bun, because toasting the bun will keep the sauces from being soaked up by the bread. “No one likes soppy buns,” Georgiou explained.

Next, layer lettuce and other dry ingredients like onions and gherkins onto the bun, before adding tomato slices.

Now for the most important bit: the patty. “It’s best to sear the patty first before basting it; this will seal in all the savoury juices.” The highest quality beef patties are generally made from rib meat and should consist of 80% to 90% meat and 10% to 20% fat. According to Georgiou,”a good patty is cooked just when it gets past medium. Over-cooked patties are dry and taste terrible.”

Lastly, add the final touches. “Use whichever sauce you prefer, whether it’s mushroom, pepper, or BBQ. Cheese is Georgiou’s favourite topping and he recommends grating it because it grills the best when grated. “Grill it for a minute or two to let the cheese melt, then place it on a plate, and voilà! Your perfect burger is ready!”
