Two weeks after residents of Muntstuk Avenue expressed their fears about crime in the area a woman was raped in the veld behind their homes.
Residents had previously complained about a lack of response by the Honeydew police, and following the rape police did not arrive on the scene, Fred Adams from Ye-Sizwe Security said.
Adams said one of his guards was patrolling the area when he heard a woman scream.
“He then rushed to the scene and tried to chase the man who raped the woman. The man eventually got away.” Adams said the man also hit the woman with a brick.
“We called emergency services and they rescued the woman and she was taken to the Olivedale Rehabilitation Centre where she is currently being treated.” Honeydew police communications officer Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs confirmed the police did receive the call about the crime. “We received the complaint at 3.07 pm and we arrived at 3.35 pm. When the Honeydew police arrived on the scene they were informed that a woman was allegedly raped and that she had been taken to hospital by paramedics.”
