Is there a case for a national men’s day?

With this hypothetical question, four participants of the West Rand Toastmasters competition in Roodepoort had to entertain the judges – impromptu.

And Mra Nyo, Max Kaan, Susan Masuku and Nathi Nala gave the audience quite a treat.

Only one contestant actually spoke in favour of a national men’s day.

Three of these contestants also had prepared speeches they shared with the audience.

Nala spoke about “In the beginning” – how God created mankind, and history was rewritten freely.

Kaan spoke about “Memory bytes (sic)”, while Nyo spoke of her heritage and arrival in Africa in “The reconstruction and deconstruction of Mra Nyo”.

At the end of the evening, speech contest chairperson Cheron McNab assured the contestants they did well.

The first prize in the impromptu section went to Kaan, and Nala came second.

Nala won first prize and Kaan the second prize for their prepared speeches.

West Rand Toastmasters meetings are held on the first and third Thursday evening of every month. It starts at 7pm and never ends later than 9.30pm.
