Road in poor condition

Trying to get a response from the authorities about the infrastructural and municipal issues on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter Road and 14th Avenue in Weltevreden Park reminds one of good rugby playing. Because the one body simply passes the issue onto the next.

Ward 89 councillor Ingrid Reinten has struggled for eight months with various problems at this corner. “It is actually so sad that we have the great Constantia Office Park and right across from it the grass is not cut and bricks are lying around. And Constantia Office Park is an economic icon for the area,” said Reinten. Furthermore, there is a lamp post that is lying horizontally and a pole holding up a billboard that has been crashed into. “This is actually a provincial matter seeing it is a province road. But nobody seems to take responsibility,” said Reinten. There is another board that fell down but is now standing against its poles. “I spotted it the first time in December. I was quite afraid that if strong winds came the board would fall over onto a car, and 14th Avenue is a rather busy street. But now I see the board is screwed to the poles. However, it is standing on the ground. So it is not visible to motorists.” She added, “I do not know how much longer this will go on. The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) says it is a provincial issue, and from there on, nothing happens.” Roodepoort Northsider have sent a query to JRA.

JRA spokesperson Sam Modiba said the matter would be investigated. The Department of Roads and Transport still needs to look into the matter.
