Erosion on the banks of the Klein Jukskei River in Weltevreden Park has led to residents taking matters into their own hands.
The community has struggled to get the Johannesburg Roads Agency to deal with the problem.
Even after the agency was taken to the site, Sector 2 chairperson Neville Burnett said, “They were here about four months ago. And even on the day when we had the ward inspection, the staff from the city could see that there was a problem but nothing has happened; the erosion is getting worse.”
He added, “Four years ago the agency put rock structures in place. But now residents living nextdoor to the river have used tyres to build a form of structure … The erosion is getting closer and closer to the fences.”
This was also the case with newly-built complex, Willow Way.
Roodepoort Northsider has sent a query to the roads agency.
Agency spokesperson Sam Modiba said the matter would need further investigation, and gave Roodepoort Northsider a reference number.
