Maraisburg Bowling Club shows support through cancer drive
MBC made a R30 contribution towards CANSA for every participant on the day
World Cancer Day was celebrated on 4 February, and to show their support, members of the Maraisburg Bowling Club (MBC) came together on the greens to raise some much-needed money.
On Sunday, 9 February the MBC hosted a Bowls for Cancer Day which saw approximately 50 people playing a game of social bowls, dressed from head to toe in pink.

For every participant showing up on the day, the MBC made a R30 contribution towards the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
One member, who is known for his shoulder-length hair, challenged all participants to raise another R1 000. If they managed that, he pledged to say goodbye to his long hair. This wager proved to be no match for the participants, and within minutes they managed to raise the requested amount and the long hair had to go.
After the first challenge, other members continued doing the same, and this phenomenon continued until more than 20 members shaved off their hair and/ or beards, and raised over R6 000 which was donated to CANSA.
Steve Maritz, MBC president and Paul Thompson, along with the club committee had arranged a very successful cancer drive and thanked Highway Meat Market for their supportive donation towards the day.
