Respect for the law and those upholding it, is instilled at an early age. Ensuring that their message reaches young people of all ages, Roodepoort Police have held several events to engage with the youth.
Roodepoort Primary School in Davidsonville hosted The Captain Khumalo Puppet Show on Monday, 3 February. The puppet show is aimed at children from Grades one to four, and focuses on educating them on the five rules of safety. Presented by Captain Granville Meyer of Sandton Police and Constable Shumikazi Mbuli from Social Crime Prevention, they explained the five of rules of child safety, which are of course:
– Never get into a car with someone you don’t know
– Do not accept gifts from a person you do not know
– Never open your front door to people you don’t know
– Tell an adult where you are going and when you will return
– Your body is private, you have the right to say no!

Turning their attention to the older generation, Constable Mbuli was again in action, only this time teaming up with Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke. The pair held a school induction talk at South West Gauteng Technical and Vocational Education and Training Centre in Horizon View. The talk was an informative session discussing topics such as discipline and substance abuse with new students.

The fight against crime starts with educating the youth on what is right and wrong, which is why Roodepoort Police and their social crime initiatives aim to prevent the crimes that embed themselves during childhood.
