Walking with you in hope and healing

The next support-group gathering is on 8 February from 3pm to 4pm at 620 Kudu Street, Constantia Kloof Office Estate.

Counselling therapist, Nadine van Rensburg has initiated an emotional support group for parents, family members, caregivers and legal guardians of children and adults with special needs.

“One of the biggest challenges facing any type of caregiver is feeling lonely, but when you meet someone who understands your situation, it’s transforming. I would like to facilitate a non-judgmental framework within which to find understanding and support from others who are in similar situations, and being able to share with others who truly understand what you are going through,” Nadine explained.

She listed the following benefits and objectives of support groups:

• Help one feel less lonely, isolated or judged

• Reduce depression, anxiety or distress

• Help gain a sense of empowerment and control

• Help get advice or information about practical solutions or treatment options

• Improve care-giving skills to ensure a better quality of life for the person being cared for

• Get a better understanding of what to expect in future

• Laugh and cry with people who really understand it, as an emotional release

• Stay motivated with assistance and practicing self-care

She is also starting a group for female adolescents and teens to support them during their difficult time.

The next support-group gathering is on 8 February from 3pm to 4pm at 620 Kudu Street, Constantia Kloof Office Estate. Bookings are compulsory, with a R100 admission fee. For more information on the support group, contact Nadine on 084 779 4889 or Theresa Booysen on 066 212 8777.
